Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is a central university in Varanasi. The university is very famous for its historical background and the array of alumni and personalities associated with it. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level programmes in numerous disciplines. The university has 3 institutes in total, 14 faculties of study and 140 departments in total. A college dedicated to women studies is also a part of BHU. Outside the campus, the university also has four other colleges present in the city that are affiliated to it.
