The institute is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum. The autonomous college is aided by the government of Karnataka and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Furthermore, the institute is accredited by NAAC with an ‘A’ grade. The college campus is spread over an area of 23 acres. As per the official website of the college, Dr AIT's vision is to develop innovative and technical professionals.
The college offers 37 courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Four specialisations of the B.Tech programme - Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Information Science and Engineering and Industrial Engineering & Management are accredited by the National Body of Accreditation (NBA).In order to secure a seat in the B.Tech course, candidates need to appear for the COMEDK UGET/JEE Main/KCET. For M.Tech., M.B.A. and M.C.A. admission, the college accepts Karnataka PGCET scores. Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology has collaborations with various international institutes like Ahmad Dahlan University, Indonesia, North-Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai, Thailand etc. For the placement of its students, Dr AIT has a placement cell.
For outstation students, the college has separate hostels for girls and boys students located inside the campus. Additionally, the Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology has modern sports facilities for students. The institute has various extracurricular clubs and societies which participate and organise in various intra-college and intercollege tournaments. Some of the clubs of Dr AIT are NSS, The Coding Club etc.

- Boys Hostel
There are three boys hostels at Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology. All the hostels have spacious rooms. Each hostel has a separate reading room, tv room and recreation room. All the three hostels combined have 283 rooms. - Girls Hostel
The college has a separate hostel for girls - Chethana Ladies Hostel. It is located inside the campus only. For surveillance of the students, CCTV cameras are there in the hostel. Additionally, power backup, RO water supply etc. are some other amenities offered to the students in the girls hostel. - Gym
Dr AIT’s gym is modern and advanced. It has the latest equipment which can be used by students. - Library
The college has a well-furnished library with thousands of books and hundreds of journals. There are over 88 thousand books and 13 thousand titles in the library. Students can also use a digital library. 15 computers with internet access are available in the library. - Sports
