Founded in 1982 by Anwar Jamal Kidwai (former VC of Jamia Millia Islamia and later, Chairman of the Centre), AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (MRC) is a premier media institution in India and one of the constituent units of Jamia Millia Islamia. The MCRC offers graduate and postgraduate courses in the art, craft, and technology of the modern media. The MCRC provides the highest standard of media education and training with a professionally and academically accomplished faculty and a broad spectrum of visiting professionals. MCRC was established by A.J. Kidwai in collaboration with York University, Toronto and the Canadian International Development Aid Agency (CIDA). The CIDA provided the MCRC with a range of sophisticated production equipment while York University sent the first generation of teachers. The institute envisioned by AJ Kidwai as providing an intensive and integrated media education that would enable students to develop their individual expertise and skills within a secular and collaborative working environment. Upholding the philosophy & vision of its founders, the institute continues to provide its students with a comprehensive media education that nurtures the individual aspirations of students while inspiring them to make a meaningful contribution to the social environment within which they work. The centre continues to work within this broad mandate while regularly updates its courses to meet the growing challenges of contemporary media. These efforts have been constantly appreciated and supported by generous grants from the government and other international agencies like Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Boys Hostel The College Facilitating transit residential accommodation at Jamia’s Boys Hostel.
Girls Hostel The College girls’ hostel has a small gym which can be utilized any time. Moreover, separate yoga classes are held for girls in the hostel gym.
Gym The College has well-equipped Gymnasium.
Library The college runs a Media Library which has an expansive collection of books, journals, films, DVDs, video and audio cassettes along with an archive of stock shots and press clippings. Apart from the specialized focus of the Media Library at the center, students of the college are also entitled to use the Dr. Zakir Hussain Library of the University for their Wider Intellectual interests.
Sports The college has Sports facilities for cricket, hockey, football, badminton, tennis, volleyball.
Cafeteria The College has a separate canteen has been provided for students of the Centre. It serves, tea, coffee, cold drinks, snacks, and lunches. Canteen charges must be paid for in cash at the time of purchase.
Auditorium The College has Auditoriums and open theature are available to students for various cultural activities.
Wifi The College center offers essential ICT services including Internet Access, Emailing, Jamia MIS, IT security, campus Wi-Fi, University Portal development and maintenance, Problem diagnostics and troubleshooting, etc.
IT Infrastructure The College has a common central computer facility is available at Centre for Information Technology for students.
Laboratories The College has dedicated and fully-equipped media laboratories for students of Animation, Photography, and Broadcast Technology.
Banks Facilities The college has the Banks/ATM facilities for all students.
