Aligarh Muslim University was formed by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in 1920 by taking the Mohammedan Anglo Oriental College to a new level as one of the most important universities of Institutions of learning in India. Spread across an area of 1155 acres in Aligarh City, Uttar Pradesh, India, the university offers 156 courses and has students studying from different parts of the country as well as globe such as Asia and Africa. AMU is ranked as one of the top 20 research institutions in India and enjoys the credibility of being an Institution of excellence in both national and international character. With the student population of about 28000 students,  1342 teachers and more than 5600 non-teaching staff, the university has spread its wings of education in 12 faculties availing 98 teaching departments. The university has been ranked 26th by the NIRF 2021 in the dental category. Aligarh Muslim University ranked 35th by the NIRF 2021 in the engineering category. The university has secured 13th rank in the architecture category, 24th rank in research category, 49th in the management category, 15th rank in the Medical category, 11th rank in the law category, 10th rank in the university category and 18th in the overall category in the NIRF 2021 ranking.

The AMU has 19 halls of residence with 80 hostels, which is a unique attribute to which residential character for most of the students. The programmes of study in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels starting from social sciences, humanities, sciences and the University has spread its offerings across many departments of study such as engineering, dental history, Islamic studies, computer science, and cultural studies. The AMU also has other centres of learning affiliated to the main Aligarh campus and also maintains schools in the city for both primary and higher school level of learning for boys and girls. The university is proudly Islamic by nature and Indian in character and is a living symbol to the composite synthetic culture of India and champion of secular principles and way of life.

Aligarh Muslim University is located in the city of Aligarh between the river regions of Ganga and Yamuna and is exactly situated 130 kilometres Southeast of Delhi. The best route is to reach Delhi International airport and the city can be reached through Delhi using Delhi-Howrah rail route or the Grand Trunk Road. The University Campus is located 2 kilometres away from the Aligarh Railway Station and reachable through public transport or taxi service. The distance between university and AMU bus stand is 2kms.

A Candidate must be pass in Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (Commerce) or an equivalent examination with not less than 55% marks in aggregate of English and Accounts and two subjects from amongst Economics, Business Studies, Business Organization, Commerce, Banking, Entrepreneurship, Mathematics and/or Statistics.

  • Boys Hostel
    Halls of Residence provide special features in its residential nature and help to accommodate the multiracial, multilingual and multi religious character of the university. Each hall has a common room provided with the reading, indoor game facility and sports areas. This AMU facility help students to live in a comfortable space away from their homes. There are 19 halls of residence, which include 13 for boys and 4 for girls.
  • Girls Hostel

    The Maulana Azad library uses OPAC (online public access catalogue) and has one of the most invaluable holdings of books, artifacts and manuscripts. It houses around 13 lakh books and has a huge database of research journals.
  • Sports
    Aligarh Muslim University has 15 clubs dedicated to sports and the cricket club is one of the oldest established in 1878. Some of the important clubs which are associated with the games community are tennis club, football club, gymkhana club, table tennis club, swimming club, athletic club and even a hiking and mountaineering club.
  • Cafeteria
    AMU Facilities comprise of a cafeteria that is located on the AMU Campus institutes. During Institute timings, hygienic delicious snacks and food products are available at equal prices.
  • Auditorium
    The university has an auditorium facility for events. There is a seminar hall with new educational technology, such as LCD projection unit, slide projection system and overhead projection system. The hall is used for presentations, workshops and seminars of the visitors.
  • Medical/Hospital
    AMU medical facility has been catering to the Medical and health needs of more than 30000 students and staff as well as faculty. It is responsible for providing emergency and diagnostic facilities along with pharmaceutical facilities added.

    The university has a Wi-Fi facility for the students and staff.
  • IT Infrastructure
    AMU facilities include a computer centre helps several students at different levels of their degree programme with three layered architecture and distribution using fibre optic cable, internet services, email services, cloud computing services, communication services, self service, intranet portal and IT helpdesk.
