Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Government Medical College was established on 23rd June, 1946. B.J Medical College was earlier known as B.J Medical School which was founded by Shri. B.J Kher, Head of the Bombay Government. B.J Medical School was founded in the year 1871. Sassoon Hospital was founded in the year 1869 by Sir David Sassoon. The institute was affiliated to the University of Pune in 1949, which is now affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik, Maharashtra. The college initially started functioning with an intake of 200 students to MBBS programmes and 143 students to postgraduate programmes. BJMC Pune also has a hospital inside the same campus known as Sassoon General Hospital. The college provides courses on various disciplines including M.B.B.S, M.Ch, M.D, M.S etc. The institute offers admission to students based on NEET scores.
