Bishop Heber College (BHC), Tiruchirappalli In 1873, The Heber Memorial School was raised to a Second Grade College and in 1882 it became a First Grade College. At that time it was known as SPG College. Bishop Heber College is an educational institution that was renamed and revived in 1966 by Dr. Solomon Doraisawmy who was Bishop of Tiruchirappalli - Thanjavur Diocese of the Church of South India. UGC granted Autonomy to our College during 2004-2005. The College was accredited with 5 stars by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college is accredited at the A+. Bishop Heber College has been ranked 43rd in the NIRF 2021 rankings in the college category. The College offers 13 Undergraduate, 18 Postgraduate and 4 Postgraduate Diploma Programmes and 3 Diploma Programmes of study besides research programmes leading to M. Phil and Ph.D. degrees. In total there are 101 courses offered in the varied disciplines. The self-financing option to pursue education was started from the year 1985.
In 2007, the college was recognised by the Department of Biotechnology and for the same, the grant of Rs 55 lac was received under the ‘Star College Scheme’. In the same year, the college received ‘College of Excellence’, with a special grant of Rs 2 crores. The successful celebration of its Golden Jubilee in 2016 is considered a remarkable achievement for the college.
Bishop Heber College(Autonomous) is located at Vayalur Road, Puthur, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. The college is approximately 10 km from Tiruchirappalli International Airport. Students can easily access local transports to reach the institution. The student needs to get down on the 'Puthur Nal Road' bus stop to get to the college.
Boys Hostel Students are admitted to the hostels only after they secure admission to the college. However, inmates may keep their belongings in a separate room in each hostel or in their own cupboards in their respective rooms, except during the summer vacation. Every hostel is provided with a payer room for the inmates to arrange Christian worship. Food will be served only in the Dining Hall of the respective hostels during the specified timings. Taking the meals to the rooms is strictly prohibited. Each student admitted into the hostel should pay the following fees at the beginning of every semester. For Boys 1. Schwartz Hostel, 2. Gardiner Hostel, 3. Dodson Hostel, 4. C.E. Hostel for Boys (For economically needy Christians only) For Boys & Girls 1. International Hostel.

Sports Bishop Heber College sports infrastructure includes various grounds, fields and courts. Bishop Heber College sporting facilities for games like cricket, football, badminton, volleyball, basketball, kabaddi, kho-kho, hockey, handball, netball, swimming and tennis are available at the college. The fitness centre is well equipped with modern exercise machinery for weightlifting and powerlifting. Indoor games facilities like chess and table tennis are also available.
