Since its inception in 2000, under the aegis of IHRD, the college has made its presence felt in the technical horizon of the state. It has been approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and recognized by the Cochin University of Science And Technology (CUSAT) and APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU). Being located in Karunagappally, Kollam district, the college has got access to all means of transport, communication and lodging facilities.
The college offers a wide range of activities to stimulate the innovative potential of students. In view of its outstanding performance in education, the college was granted an aid of Rupees 10 Crore by the MHRD under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP II). The institute campus is enabled with round the clock WiFi connection and also connected to the National Knowledge Network grid which enables collaborative research, development and innovation amongst NKN connected institutes facilitating advanced distance education in specialized fields of engineering. The college offers transportation facilities to nearby cities (Kollam and Kayamkulam) by institute buses. In addition hostel facilities are arranged for girls and boys.

The College has various national and international collaborations.
The Alumni Association of College of Engineering Karunagappally has been functioning from 2011 at the college campus. The main aim of the Association is to maintain the link between college and Alumni and share their details of employment and achievements. It was also formed with a view to keep the silken threads of the attachments between the old students and the Institution. The alumni members meet for an Annual get-together every year and all the Alumni present are taken around the campus.
Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, or Examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with 50 % marks in Mathematics separately, and 50 % marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Biotechnology/Computer Science /Biology put together are eligible for admission.

The college has a well-furnished library and information center which stacks a lot of books of interest including technical textbooks in various subjects, various journals, magazines, and newspapers of national and international standards. The library has a collection of over 5000 volumes of books. The carpet area of the library is 1000 sqm. The working hours of the library are from 9 am- 6 pm. The library contains 11583 books, 18 journals, and 12magazines, 3 e-journals, 1000CD ROMs. Question papers of previous years are serially arranged & bound reference. Books are arranged as per the Dewey Decimal Classification scheme.DIGITAL LIBRARYLibrary provides e-journal facilities. The following e-journal packages are available in a library.IEEE /ASPPElsevierSpringerJOURNALS AND MAGAZINES18 National journals and 12 magazines are being regularly subscribed in print form. Some technical magazines are also available in the library.
