The Institution started in the year 2000 was affiliated to Cochin University of Science and Technology and is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University Kerala from 2015 admission onwards. The college is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The Chairman of the Governing Body of the institution is the Hon’ble Minister for Education, Government of Kerala and the Vice-Chairman is the Additional Chief Secretary (Higher Education) Government of Kerala.
Since its inception, CEM has been priding itself on creating professional opportunities for its students and equipping them to become highly successful on their chosen field. Located in one of the most livable cities in the world, and associated with one of the finest universities in the region, the campus attracts students from all over the country. It is established in 26 acres of land in the Kannan Devan hills, just one kilometer of Munnar town.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, in collaboration with College of Engineering, Munnar, and Department of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Kerala, established an aerosol monitoring facility at Munnar, Kerala, in the Western Ghats. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan virtually inaugurated the laboratory on February 20, 2021.
The COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING MUNNAR ALUMNI ASSOCIATION was established in 2014 to foster Institution – Alumni relationships, and thereby to advance the objectives of the Institution. It has an Executive Committee (EC) which manages its affairs.
The strength of any institute is comprised of the present students, who are the future leaders and the alumni of the college, who bring in honor to the institution by virtue of their success and repute in the society. The alumni association acts as a bridge between the illustrious alumni and their alma mater, giving the current students and the alumni a chance to develop positive synergies and grow together.
The association is proud and glad at the outstanding performance of the alumni. Many of its members are serving most of the countries in the world. A Candidate for admission to the four-year degree course in Engineering must have passed the Intermediate examination (10+2) of the Board of Intermediate Education with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as subjects or any other examination.

The college canteen is functioning under a governing committee consisting of representatives from staff and students. It is run on a contract basis. The canteen provides all the delicious food at a subsidized rate.

Transport
The college buses are plying through the veins and arteries of Munnar town and reach up to the hostels of the students and staff where they are put. It is functioning very effectively by the generous annual contributions of the students and staff. A committee led by the Principal controls it with the help of a Secretary. The college buses can be hired for academic as well as tourism purposes for students and staff with the prior permission of the committee as per the norms and rate fixed by the committee at that time.
