The management of IHRD is vested with a Governing Body composed of with the Hon’ble Minister of Education, Kerala State, as the Chairman and Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, Government of Kerala as the Vice-Chairman. IHRD is based on the principle, “Think Globally and Act Locally” and its associate institutions are located in diverse locations in Kerala to achieve this goal. College of Engineering Poonjar is located in a scenic place on a calm hilly region with pure air and greenery congenial for any student to pursue learning with dedication.
College of Engineering Poonjar is a vibrant community indulged in scholarship and devoted to learning always remembering that education is a service to the nation and humanity. It provides undergraduate and post graduate streams in different branches and is currently striving to become a potential research centre. This college works on the basic tenet of discovering and transmitting knowledge in engineering and technology which are beneficial to the society as a whole. Both class room instructions and personal study are given equal importance to face all challenges in the rapidly changing engineering educational field. Its commitment to teaching is reflected in the high position it enjoys in all University examination results since its establishment. Students are encouraged to bring knowledge to bear on the arising challenges in their future professional life.

Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, or Examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with 50 % marks in Mathematics separately, and 50 % marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Biotechnology/Computer Science /Biology put together are eligible for admission.

Girls Hostel
The College hostel is situated in Erattupetta town and the College bus transports students from and to the college. Hostel started functioning five years back. It can accommodate 120 students and the security of the inmates is ensured. Wi-Fi facility is available and students can access the internet during the time fixed and also can take printouts, if necessary.
Library
The College has a well-furnished library and information center which stacks with a lot of books of interest including technical textbooks in various subjects, various journals, magazines and newspapers of national and international standards. The library has a collection of over 10,000 volumes of books. There is a photocopying and internet facility in the center. Besides an e-book center having about 500 titles is a part of the library and information center. The library has two functional parts. Books are issued for a period of 14 days to students. It can be renewed for a further period of 14 days. More than 200 readers can be accommodated in the library at a time. The fully automated and most modernized library includes a Digital Library section and an Internet facility. The center provides information services such as current affairs awareness, selective dissemination of information, e-learning, etc. The library will be kept open on all working days from 9 am to 5 pm. Library Cards are issued to all members of the library for borrowing books.
Sports
The college has sports facilities for all students.
Cafeteria
The College canteen is blessed with a family atmosphere, with a variety of delicacies, touched by a homemade flavor, cooked to perfection, and served with great courtesy. The College has a Canteen facility. Refreshments are available at the college canteen at affordable rates. Adequate seating facilities are provided to accommodate students and staff even during peak time. At present, to ensure quality and hygiene, P T A is running the canteen.
Auditorium
The college has an auditorium facility for events and seminars.
WiFi
The College has Equipped with a collection of 114 PCs including Intel Core 2 Duo and AMD Athlon Machines with Windows 7, Red Hat Linux, and Fedora are installed. and these networks are controlled by the D-Link Advanced Hub. This lab provides 24 hrs Broad Band internet facility on the campus for achieving the ‘Ultimate Resource of Education’. Security and protection against unwanted sites are enabled through AVG Antivirus Solution.
IT Infrastructure
The college has an excellent IT Infrastructure facility for the students.
