Dr NGP Arts and Science College

The Coimbatore- based Dr. NGP Arts and Science College serves courses right from the UG till doctoral levels. As the college’s name would suggest, majority of the courses here, are to do with the arts and the sciences, but lately courses, have also been started for the commerce stream. The entire academics here is run by separate faculty areas. At the undergrad level, there is the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences to begin with. It houses BSc. programmes in the areas of- Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Costume Design & Fashion and for Catering Science & Hotel Management. The BSc. in Mathematics may also be undertaken in conjunction with Computer Applications. Likewise, the Faculty of Management also doles out at this level, its sole course, which is the BBA with Computer Applications. 

The Faculty of Bio Sciences has further BSc. programmes for the areas of- Bio Chemistry, Bio Technology, Food Sciences & Nutrition, Microbiology and in Clinical Laboratory Technology. The Faculty of Computer Science runs three BSc. programmes. These are for Computer Science, Computer Technology and in Information Technology. It also runs the BCA course. At this level, the Faculty of Humanities offers the B.A. in English Literature. The largest vertical at the UG stage is the Faculty of Commerce. It houses the course on B. Com. This B. Com may also be pursued with specializations from the areas of- Finance, Information Technology, Computer Applications, International Business, Banking & Insurance, Business Analytics, Business Process Services, Professional Accounting, Corporate Secretary- ship and in Account & Taxation. 

At the master’s level, the courses remain mostly the same, but with fewer options. The Faculty of Management does the MHA or Master of Hospital Administration. Some research courses may also be taken up at both M.Phil. as well as the PhD. levels, from options across the faculty areas. Some certifications and diploma programmes may also be pursued here. These may be taken up by the enrolled students as add- on courses, or by some external ones as well. In addition, there are post graduate diplomas too. These are primarily meant for working professionals, seeking a skill upgrade. Certifications can be applied in here in the areas of- Communicative English, Oracle, Embroidery, MS Office and in Bakery & Confectionary. 

The diploma courses are for Logistics Management, Data Science, Hospital Records Management, Office Administration, Cyber Security, Web Designing and in Food Safety & Quality Control. The PG Diplomas available at the Dr. NGP Arts and Science College are for the areas of- Bio Informatics, Imaging Technology (Radiology & Scan Technology), Clinical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Research & Data Management and for Hospital & Healthcare Management. The academic administration is in the hands of the departments. There are departments here for all the different areas of study. In addition, there are even departments for the languages of Hindi and Tamil. 

Research is another key part of the Dr. NGP Arts and Science College. For this, the Centre of Research has been set up on campus. The college us working on a number of research programmes. Some of them have been funded by external industry or government bodies as well. Some of the funding agencies are the likes of- DST (Department of Science and Technology), CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research), UGC, DAE (Department of Atomic Energy), SERC (Science and Engineering Research Council), DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization), MOEF (Ministry of Environment and Forests), DBT (Department of Bio Technology), MOWR (Ministry of Water Resources), ICSSR (Indian Council of Social Science Research), ICAR (Indian Council for Agricultural Research), Social Science Fellowship, MOSJE (Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment) and the Malcom and Elizabeth Adhisheshiah Trust.
