The institute has been accredited by NAAC. It is an autonomous institute affiliated with Anna University. Government College of Engineering Salem is a publicly owned co-ed college. The total number of faculty members is more than 80 and the total student enrollment is more than 2,000. Government College of Engineering Salem admissions is offered to 12 courses at the UG and PG levels. GCE Salem courses offered are - B.E and M.E. The college offers 60 to 180 seats in the B.E course and 18 seats in the M.E courses. Government College of Engineering Salem admission to the B.E courses on the basis of the merit of the qualifying exam through TNEA counselling. For securing admission to the PG courses candidates need to appear for TANCET or GATE entrance examination.
Government College of Engineering Salem has a training and placement cell. It trains and guides the students to get successfully placed. - Boys Hostel
There are three hostels for boys. It can accommodate 569 boys. All basic facilities are provided to the students. The hostel has a canteen, mess, fax, phone, recreational facilities and many other facilities. - Girls Hostel
There are two hostels for girls that can accommodate 279. The hostel mess provides meals to the students. Wifi and purified water are available in the hostel. - Library
Government College of Engineering Salem facilities include a library. The library has many textbooks, reference books, journals, magazines, e-books, CDs, DVDs and other academic resources. Online services are also provided by the college. More than 60,000 books are available in the college library. The library has adopted the Universal Decimal Classification system. - Sports
