Government Engineering College,Barton Hill, Thiruvananthapuram – 695035 Kerala, IndiaGovernment Engineering College, Barton Hill was established by the Government of Kerala in the academic year 1999-2000. Within a short span of time since inception, the college has achieved notable academic excellence. The college is affiliated to the University of Kerala for final year B.tech batch and APJ Abdul kalam Kerala Technological University for all other batches. It is under the administrative control of the Director of Technical Education, Government of Kerala.
The college is situated at scenic hills of Barton Hill and the land was donated by His Highness Sri.Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the last ruling Maharaja of the princely State of Travancore. The college started its functioning in the month of November 1999 on the buildings of the Barton Hill Girl’s High School, Kunnukuzhy which is now defunct.The first principal of the college was Prof. G. Jayasankar and Dr. N Vijayakumar is the present principal of the college.

- Candidates shall have passed the Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala or 12th Standard V.H.S.E., C.B.S.E., I.S.C or any other examination considered as equivalent thereto.
- Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, or Examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Mathematics separately, and 50 % marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.
Facilities
Girls Hostel
We have a wonderful building at the corner of our college – Ladies Hostel , a secure home for the female students. This hostel is constructed in an Eco friendly manner to provide a green and fresh breath to its inmates. This is filled with 53 rooms which can accommodate 216 students including both M.Tech & B.Tech students.It provides an attractive shelter to the students, as it is adorned with spacious rooms, proper lighting facilities, study tables and required furnishings. Each of its 4 floors (including base) is lined with long verandas, which gifts you a sweet path due to an open quadrangle located at the center.
Library
The library has a collection volumes consisting of titles in different domains of Science and Technology including chemistry, mathematics, physics, & management. Besides General Collection, the Library has segregated specialized collection having separate collection codes

The college has the sports facilities for all students.
Cafeteria
The Canteen is a small building with a seating capacity of hundred members have separate area for the staff and students. A variety of refreshments and meals are available here.

The campus is completely connected by WiFi. A Ruckus Zone Director 3000 WiFi controller kept in the server room manages the WiFi access.
IT Infrastructure
The Central Computing Facility of the college has been set up in the EC/IT Block. It has a central server room, a lab facility of 70 desktops, UPS room and printers/photocopiers. An extension to the CCF is being operated in the Old IT Block as Internet Lab / language Lab. CCF is being managed by the Department of Information Technology.
