Gargi College, Siri Fort Road, New Delhi 110049, IndiaGargi College was established in the year 1967 and is a leading South Campus college of the University of Delhi. It is a college for women and offers education in Arts and Humanities, Commerce, Science and Education.
Gargi College was named after an enlightened woman named Gargi, figuring in the Brihadaranyaka Upanishada of the Vedic Age. She emerges as an intelligent and bold person embodying the spirit of inquiry juxtaposed with faith as is shown by her penetrating and challenging questions to the great sage Yajnavalkya. In the Upanishad Gargi seems to represent the intellectual potential of the race of Homo sapiens, which continues to manifest itself , in quest of ever-widening fields of knowledge.
Gargi believes in its mission statement that every student who passes through the portals of the college emerges as a wholly developed individual symbolizing the spirit of enterprise and inquiry that characterizes Gargi.
Gargi College, one of the two colleges in Delhi to have been awarded the prestigious College with a Potential for Excellence grant, by the University Grants Commission in the year 2004-2005, was chosen because of its holistic approach towards teaching and its excellent track record in academic and other aspects of college functioning. Nine departments namely Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Elementary Education, Microbiology, Physics, Psychology, Zoology and the Women’s Development Centre are currently engaged in innovation and experimentation in the undergraduate programme, using modern methods of learning and evaluation. This award is in recognition of the endeavour of the college to engage in advanced research and socially purposeful projects over and above the regular college events.

Gargi College is located at Siri Fort Road, New Delhi. Gargi College is at a distance of 12 km from the New Delhi Airport. The distance between Gargi College and New Delhi Railway Station is also 12 km. The nearest bus stop to the college is Gargi College Bus Stop.
- WISE’ (Women in Science Event!) - An event was organized at Gargi College to felicitate women scientists who have done groundbreaking research.
- Writing as an Enabling Cognitive Activity by Writing Centres in Higher Education Landscape, Dr Kanika Singh, Director, Centre for Writing and Communic - An interdisciplinary seminar was conducted at Gargi College on writing as an enabling cognitive ability.
- Panel Discussion on Project Vikas Launch | Enactus - A panel discussion on Digital India: Covid 19’s silver lining was organized in Gargi College which also discussed Project Vikas.

Candidates must pass their 10th and 12th class or equivalent to that with 45 percent or above from a recognized university.
Facilities
- Library
With the start of the year, Gargi Library started OPAC availability on Intranet. Library users can now check the availability of library resources online within the college campus. The Library is maintained with Web junction with the facility of UGC INFLIBNET and access to DU Library Catalogue. 1049 books were added during the year till February making the total of 71315 books in all. At present library has an asset of 107 CDs and subscribed to 10 newspapers, 55 journals/magazines out of which 04 have free online access. Approximately 116156 books were loaned out to borrowers, which include consultation of ref. and general sec. use and excludes the use of loose issues of periodicals and reference books during the period. - Sports
There is a large sports field in the college and professional training is provided to students. Facilities for Judo, Basketball, Volleyball and many more sports are present in Gargi College. - Cafeteria
Gargi College canteen provides various cuisines. A water harvesting system has been established in the canteen area. An additional food court has been constructed and the canteen has been renovated. - Auditorium
The college boasts of having its own state-of-the-art auditorium: the meridian of architectural finesse, with a seating capacity of 750 spread over the main floor and the mezzanine. The airy, spacious portico endowed with natural daylight and furnished with tables and chairs serves as a quiet place for conducting tutorial classes. The auditorium block is fully air-conditioned and equipped with solar lighting installations. - Medical/Hospital
Medical facility is available to students during college hours. There is a medical room with a trained nurse for providing basic first aid to the students. Besides, students can also get their health check-up done. Regular medical and dental check-ups are conducted in the college by qualified medical professionals. - IT Infrastructure
Computers have become an indispensably essential part of the undergraduate college curricula with the introduction of a variety of revised and restructured courses. The three computer laboratories in the college consisting of 110 computers with wi-fi connectivity provide students with an opportunity for hands-on training and enhancing their computing skills. The laboratories are also available for career- intensive education after regular class hours. - Laboratories
The Botany, Chemistry, Elementary Education, Microbiology, Physics, Psychology and Zoology laboratories are not only spacious and well-ventilated but also very well-equipped with various resources. Working in any of these laboratories is a pleasurable experience. There are separate research laboratories for Botany and Physics departments where research is being conducted by the faculty members. - Convenience Store
There is a bookstore available which offers books at an attractive discount. Gargi College bookstore is well stocked and caters to the curriculum.
