Government College, Tripunithura, which comes under section 2f and 12B of the UGC, is a state-funded institution. The college, established in 1982, offers four Under Graduate Programmes and two Post Graduate Programmes at present. Situated in a rural area which lies in the suburbs of the fast expanding Kochi city, the college performs a significant role in effecting positive changes in native life. As there are no other arts and science colleges within 10 kilometers, we consider it a social requisite that this institution imparts quality education for the stake holders. The college moved to its own building only in 2005 which is situated in a 70 cents land. The foremost necessity of our college is a spacious campus, with modern facilities, buildings and college ground. The 10 acres landed property, the proposed site of the real college campus and the college ground, is being made appropriate for commencement of construction. A ray of hope is visible with the government benevolently sanctioning an amount of Rs. 1.35 crores for constructing boundary wall around the proposed new campus, Rs. 3 crores for the construction of a ladies hostel and Rs. One crore for developing Infrastructure and academic improvement. The local MLA has sanctioned an additional grant of Rs. Two Crore from his local development fund for building the college play ground. With these supportive measures we are at the verge of building up our new campus. However, lack of infrastructural facilities has not significantly affected the quality of teaching-learning and evaluation process as our excellent results in all the four streams: Commerce, English, Economics and History explicitly demonstrate.
With its high academic performance and competent faculty, the college has created remarkable impact in the cultural and social consciousness of the heritage town, Tripunithura, in spite of infrastructural limitations. The easy access to the city of Kochi, Kerala’s largest industrial zone, along with the rail and road amenities to reach the college are our major strengths whereas the lack of infrastructure is our crucial challenge.
