The Government Law College, Thrissur started in the year 1992 . It is the fourth Government Law College in the State and is affiliated to the University of Calicut. The need for starting a Government Law College at Thrissur was deeply felt by the educationists, intellectuals, lawyers and other eminent personalities of Thrissur in 1970 itself.The Government Law College, Thrissur started in the year 1992 . The first batch of Law Graduates came out in 1993-94 academic year. Sri. R. Muthukrishnan, Chairman, Bar Council of India and Sri Gopakumaran Nair, the Local Member visited the college on 27-3-1995 and affiliation of the college was approved by the Bar Council of India.
Candidate must have passed bachelor degree with minimum of 45% marks in aggrigate shall alone be eligible for addmission to the 3 year LLB course. Candidate belonging to socially and educationally backward classes need 42% and for SC/ST 40%. Candidate who have obtained first degree cirtificate after prosecuting studies in distance and correspondance shall also be considered for addmission. Library The College library has a collection of over 37182 books covering a wide range of general and special subjects consisting of text books reference books, back volumes of journals, reports etc. The library subscribes to several leading law journals, both Indian and foreign and also a number of newspapers and magazines. It has acquired the complete set of leading law reports like, Supreme Court Cases, All India Reporter, Criminal Law Journal, Kerala Law Times, Kerala law journal, consumer law journal and some international law journals.The library also has a sizeable collection of All India Reporter – Supreme Court & High Courts, Kerala Law Times etc. and online legal databases such as Westlaw, & Manupatra Online,LexisNexis,remotexsfacility etc..
