The Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram formed in 1875 is one of the oldest institution imparting legal education in India. Affiliated to the Faculty of Law of University of Kerala, the college is supervised and controlled by the Government of Kerala and was ranked as the 23rd best law college in India in 2007 by INDIA TODAY.
The college conduct courses in LLM Degree of 2 years duration in 4 semesters with specialisation in Constitutional Law & International Law. And LLB Degree course 3 years duration in 6 semesters and LLB Degree course 5 years duration in 10 semesters. The admission to each courses is made through its common entrance examination conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examination, Govt. of Kerala.
With a well experienced and eminent team of faculty, the college produces top scorers of the University every year. The College has a well maintained Library and reading room to facilitate students and has hostel facility for male students.In pursuance of the decision of the Hon'ble Supreme Court an Anti-Ragging Committee and an Anti-Ragging Squad have been constituted with the Principal as the head, to curb ragging. And there is also a Women Grievance Cell to look into the general welfare of women in the college.
Girls Hostel The college has a newly inaugurated Women's Hostel attached to it. Admission to the hostel will be made by the Warden of Hostel from the Second. year onwards. Application forms for admission to the Hostel will be issued only to the students who have joined the college. Those who join the Hostel will be subject to the control of the Warden and shall abide by all the rules of the Hostel. The principal is also empowered to take appropriate action including withholding of progress and attendance certificate for examination, withholding of payment of educational concession, etc., against the inmates of the Hostel who are indisciplined or defaulter of the fee.
Library The College has a well-maintained Library and Reading Room which will be kept open from 9.30 a. m. till 4.30 p. m, on all working days and from 10.00 a. m. to 2.00 p. m. on Saturday. LL.B. students are permitted to take two books and LL.M. students can borrow five books at a time. Internet facility is also available in the Library for students. At present, there are 27000 books and 5000 periodicals are available along with bound volumes of almost all foreign journals. The Library has been automated using LIBSOFT software to make the processes fast.
Cafeteria The college has a canteen facility for staff and students.
Auditorium The college has an auditorium facility for events and seminar.
IT Infrastructure The college has excellent IT Infrastructure facility for the students.
Moot Court Organise regular Interclass Moot Court and Mock Trial Competitions in the College, Select and train Panel of Mooters to participate in the outside State, National level Moot Court, Mock trial and Client Counselling Competitions, Organise guest lectures / training sessions my eminent advocates for the mooters, Organise Law Fests and provide a platform to other law college students for their performance.
