Established in 1909, the Indian Institute of Science is an Institute of Eminence located in Bangalore. IISc Bangalore started its venture with the joint efforts of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the Government of India and the Maharaja of Mysore. IISc Bangalore has 45 departments under six divisions namely: Division of Biological Sciences, Division of Chemical Sciences, Division of Electrical, Electronics and Computer Science (EECS), Division of Interdisciplinary Sciences, Division of Mechanical Sciences, Division of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has secured 2nd rank in NIRF 2021 overall ranking and 1st in the research and university categories. In NIRF 2020 ranking, the institute was at the top in research and university categories.

The campus is spread over 434 acres of land. The students’ enrollment number is more than 3000. IISc Bangalore admissions are offered to its various courses in the field of Management and Business Administration, Sciences, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, Computer Application and IT etc. Students need to appear for the national level entrance examination for admission in various courses at IISc Bangalore.
Indian Institute of Science is located at CV Raman Road, Bengaluru, Karnataka. Kempegowda International Airport is the nearest airport at a distance of 31 km that will take around 45 minutes to reach IISc Bangalore. The nearest railway station is Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna at a distance of 6.2 km. It will take around 12 minutes for students to reach IISc Bangalore from the railway station. Students can take a bus from APSRTC Bus Station to reach the Indian Institute of Science in 11 minutes.

Boys Hostel IISc Bangalore has various independent hostel blocks for students, out of which some are for boys. Altogether, the hostel blocks can accommodate more than 3000 students. There are four different messes for students to choose from, two of them offer vegetarian dishes whereas the other two serve both veg and non-veg dishes.
Girls Hostel The institute has numerous hostel blocks out of which few are especially for girls. Each hostel has some uniqueness; no two hotels are alike. These hostel blocks can together accommodate more than 3000 students. There are single and double rooms available for students. The hostel blocks also have a small utility shop, bakery, laundry, cycle repair etc.
Gym Gymkhana is the sports and cultural hub for the students and faculty members of IISc Bangalore. The GymKhana offers all the necessary facilities and support to the students so that they can take part in extracurricular activities along with their studies.
Library The Indian Institute of Science Library also known as J R D Tata Memorial Library was started in 1911. The library has a collection of approximately 5 lakh volumes of books, periodicals, technical reports and standards. It is located in about 5,000 sq.mts.
Cafeteria The cafeteria is not just a place where students take meals, it has become a spot where students can hang out with their friends and can do a little chit chat. The cafeteria of IISc Bangalore offers delicious food items at nominal prices.
Auditorium IISc Bangalore has multiple auditoriums that are being used for hosting various events such as seminars, workshops, cultural events etc.
Medical/Hospital IISc Bangalore has a health centre to cater to the medical needs of the students, staff and faculty members. The health centre is well equipped to undertake several clinical investigations and offers outpatient care as well as provides in-patient treatment.
Parking Facility The institute has a parking space that can be used by students, staff and faculty members.
Guest Room IISc Bangalore has well-furnished guest rooms. Students can avail this facility to accommodate their family members when they arrive at the campus to visit them. However, students must adhere to rules and regulations with regard to booking guest rooms. IISc Bangalore guest rooms can accommodate 300 guests.
Banks Facilities There are two banks: Canara Bank and the State Bank of India branches functioning on the campus. ATM facilities are also available at IISc Bangalore for students and faculty members.
