IIT Guwahati has a total of 11 departments and 5 interdisciplinary academic centres which have various courses in science, engineering, and humanities disciplines offering BDes, M.Tech, B.Tech, MSc, PhD, M.Des programmes. IIT Guwahati has collaborations with universities all around the world namely University of Adelaide, Shantou University, Deakin University, NIT Manipur, CSIR, PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh, NIPER Guwahati, CSIR Hyderabad, GNRC Ltd. etc. As per NIRF rankings 2021, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has been ranked 9th in the research category, 7th among engineering institutions and 8th in the overall category. The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati was ranked 7th among engineering institutions and 9th in the overall category in NIRF 2020 rankings.
IIT Guwahati offers various facilities to its students and faculty members. The varsity can be easily reached via rail, road and air. The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is situated about 22.8 kilometres away from the university. It takes approximately 36 minutes to commute to and from the campus. The Guwahati Railway Station is also located at a distance of only 18 km. The nearest bus station is the Pan Bazaar bus station, 8km from the campus.

Facilities
The university offers a plethora of facilities such as a boys and girls hostel, central library, a guest house, lecture hall, indoor games, outdoor activities, hospital, auditorium, gym and much more. There is an ATM, free wifi, canteen, cafe and a beautiful campus for the students and the faculties along with that they also have an inbuilt IRCTC which facilitates students to book their flight very easily. Hostel: The institute provides boys as well as girls hostel separately with all the basic amenities like Wifi, TV, indoor and outdoor games, well-maintained room, etc.
Guesthouse: IIT, Guwahati provides a guest house for guest's, student's guardian who visit the institute. They are provided with all the basic amenities throughout the stay.
Library: The library has more than 1,00,000 printed volumes, journals and many books related to sciences, technology, humanities and engineering and social sciences.
