Jadavpur University, 188, Raja SC Mallick Road, Kolkata - 700032, West Bengal, IndiaAfter the Independence of India, the West Bengal Government with the concurrence of the Govt. of India made necessary legislation for the establishment of Jadavpur University on December 24, 1955. The campus is spread over 88 acres of land. Jadavpur University is ranked 8th according to the NIRF Ranking for university category, 2021. As per NIRF Rankings 2021, the university has been ranked 17th in the research category and 14th in the overall category. JU Kolkata has established itself as one of the top universities. It offers a vast number of courses with the commitment of faculty members toward advanced study and research.
The generous donations were made to establish the National Council of Education. The major donors were Raja Subodh Chandra Mallik, Brojendra Kishore Roy Choudhary, Maharaja Suryyo Kanto Acharya Choudhury and Sir Rashbehari Ghosh. The first principal of the Bengal National College was Sri Aurobindo. Rabindranath Tagore also served as a teacher in the Bengal National College. Jadavpur University offers numerous courses in the disciplines of Arts, Science, Engineering and Technology. The University is recognised by UGC and approved by AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education).

The Jadavpur Railway Station is the nearest metro station to Jadavpur University. It is located at a distance of 850 m from Jadavpur University. Students or visitors can also reach the University by bus. The nearest bus depot is at the distance of Howrah -Layalka is at a distance of 1.8 km from the University

The most basic criteria for admission in all the UG courses is to qualify a 10+2 level examination from CBSE or equivalent board.

- Boys Hostel
There are 9 Boys hostels with provision for accommodating over 1254 students. Recreational facilities are available for the students. Hostel Mess is conducted by the Students Mess Committee under the guidance of the Superintendent of the respective hostel. - Girls Hostel
There are 4 Girls hostels with provision for accommodating over 622 students. Hostel Mess is conducted by the Students Mess Committee under the guidance of the Superintendent of the respective hostel. Wardens are also there at the hostel to take care of the students. - Gym

A 3 storied library is present within the campus. The library has 7 reading rooms which can accommodate up to 700 readers. The library also has a subscription to various e-resources through which students can avail access to various e-books and journals - Sports
