Kasturba Medical College Mangalore is recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI), the General Medical Council of Great Britain and the Malaysian Medical Council. KMC Mangalore was ranked 21st among the top medical colleges in India by NIRF in 2020. According to Careers360 Rankings, the college has been 4th in the medical category. In NIRF rankings 2021, KMC Mangalore has been ranked 23rd in the medical category.
The college has a total of 28 academic departments such as Departments of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry. Initially, KMC Mangalore was utilizing the clinical facilities of Government Wenlock Hospital and Government Lady Goschen Hospital. In 1977, KMC Mangalore became an independent unit. As per the official website, the vision of KMC Mangalore is to be a centre of excellence in medical education.

KMC Mangalore has separate hostels for boys. Rooms are allotted to students based on availability. All the basic facilities are available in the hostel for students. The college has four hostels for boys. - Girls Hostel
