Madras Medical College, Madras Medical College and Government General Hospital, E.V.R Periyar Salai,

Madras Medical College, Chennai was started in 1664 as a small hospital that was treating the sick soldiers of the East India Company. Sir Edward Winter was instrumental in establishing the British Hospital at Madras. This hospital became Govt. General Hospital in 1664. 

In 1842 the Hospital opened its doors to Indians, and in the next two decades, the college was performing with proper teaching staff and a comprehensive curriculum. In the year 1850, the college became Madras Medical College and in 1857 the college became affiliated to University of Madras. Since 1988 the college has been affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. MMC Chennai has nine affiliated institutions with hospitals. It is approved by the Medical Council of India. Madras Medical College, Chennai. The institute has secured 16th rank in the Medical category in NIRF 2021 Ranking with an overall score of 57.88 out of 100. It had secured 12th rank in the same category in NIRF 2020 ranking. As per the NIRF ranking 2020, the college was placed at 57th position in the pharmacy category.

Madras Medical College is situated at Park Town Station, Park Town, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The college is about 18 km from the Chennai International Airport and 1 km from Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station. The Central Bus Depot is about 2 km from the college.

Open Category: A minimum 50% marks in Botany/Biology and Zoology taken together. And A minimum 50% marks in Physics & Chemistry taken together. Students must note that total aggregate percentage of marks should not be less than 70%.
