NIT Surathkal was established in 2002 and was formerly known as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC). It is one of the thirty-two National Institute of Technology in India and also recognised as Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. The National Highway 66 runs through the campus and it has a close proximity to the Arabian Sea. Established by the efforts of U.Srinivas Mallya and V.S Kudva, the campus is spread over an area of 295 acres. NIT Surathkal has secured 40th rank in research catgory in NIRF Ranking 2021. The institute has secured 10th rank in the Engineering category in NIRF 2021 Ranking with an overall score of 64.19/100. It has also secured 32nd rank in the overall category in NIRF 2020 Ranking.

The primary motto of the NIT Surathkal is to facilitate transformation of the students into good human beings, who metamorphosize into responsible citizens and through professionals, that focuses on generation, assimilation and dissemination of knowledge. With a faculty of approximately 256 members, the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal is dedicated to guiding its students to achieve successful career goals.  

NIT Surathkal houses a staff club, post office, hostels, schools (English medium and Kannada medium), swimming pool and others that offer service to both the staff and the students who are pursuing their academic degree there. With an amalgamation of 13 departments ,1 school, 12 supporting centres, 245 highly qualified and dedicated faculty,  166 committed supporting staff and 6000 talented and motivated students along with 25000+ distinguished alumni the National Institute of Technology Karnataka has been ranked 44th among the top universities.

Located on the coastal belt of Karnataka, the National Institute of Technology Karnataka is  on the National Highway 66. It is about 22 kms from the city of Mangalore and is towards Udupi. The institute is 19.4 kms from Mangalore International Airport and 19 kms from Mangalore Railway Station. The Surathkal bus stop is 3km from the campus.

  • The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will regulate the seat allocation for NIT Surathkal admission.
  • With valid JEE Main or equivalent entrance examination score, a merit list shall be made category-wise, listing All India Rank (AIR) of candidates.
  • Based on the rank secured, candidates are required to appear in JoSAA Counselling rounds as per their category.

  • Boys Hostel
    The college has boy’s hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.
  • Girls Hostel
    The college has girl's hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.

    NIT Surathkal facilities also include a library to cater to the needs of the enrolled candidates, the campus provides with an state-of art central library that has over 135,000 printed books, 8193 e-books, 12,045 e-journals, 260 printed journals, 23 2-databases, 15400 back volumes and 2 bibliographic and scientific databases. The students will get to avail the membership of- NIT Consortium,  e-ShodhSindhu Consortium( MHRD) and DELNET.
  • Sports
    Infrastructure pertaining to both outdoor and indoor sports are made available in the campus parameter. To see the development the students need a full-fledged Physical Education and  Sports Department that consists of-  one Assistant Physical Director and two students’ sports and activity officers (SAS Officers).
  • Cafeteria
    The National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal  has two canteens and four cafeterias dedicated to catering to its students and professionals.
  • Auditorium
    With a 1200 seater, the institute offers the students with an auditorium facility, where the programmes are conducted. There is also an 1800 capacity open air theater in the institute arena.
  • Medical/Hospital
    To provide students and faculty members with good healthcare support, the institute supports a full-fledged health care centre that has specialists visiting regularly and also has a 24/7 emergency ambulance facility.

    The college has Wi-Fi facility for the students and staff.
  • IT Infrastructure
    CCC has contributed in designing and building a good IT infrastructure for the Institute. CCC strives to make this infrastructure adequate to the academic need, by providing quality IT services from the user perspective to support teaching, learning, research and innovations. CCC maintains the campus network backbone connectivity and internet connections on a 24x7 basis. Besides this, CCC LAN is available for curricular and co-curricular activities for 12 hours on weekdays and 8 hours on weekends and general holidays. The CCC occupies the ground and first floor of the building opposite to the Silver Jubilee Auditorium. CCC was established in 1995 as a service providing/supporting facility that augments to the computing facilities in the teaching departments.

    The 150+ classrooms in the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal are all equipped with world class audio-visual facilities. To help the students learn in a more elaborate and comprehensive way.

    For the efficiency of  commuting, the institute of National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal  will be providing transportation facility from the lecture hall complexes and departments to the hostels.
  • Laboratories
    The campus offers 120+ laboratories that are all equipped with the latest facilities. To help the students, there will be qualified technicians and laboratory staff.

  • Convenience Store
    For both the employees and the students  two shopping center has been constructed that has access to- cloth shop, bakery, cooperative societies, vegetable shops, tailoring, beauty parlour, saloon, printing press, laundry, provisional store and others
  • Guest Room
    Located on the western side of the National Highway 66 , that is near the beach , there are four guest houses namely- J C Bose Guest House, Homi J Bhaba Guest House, Vikram Sarabhai Guest House and International Hostel has been constructed and is available to guests.
