National University of Advanced Legal Studies, NUALS Campus, HMT Colony PO Kalamassery, Ernakulam, KThe National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) was established by Act 27 of 2005 of the Kerala State Legislature. By the same Act, the National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) established by the Bar Council of Kerala Trust in 2002 merged with the NUALS. In 2008, an amendment streamlined the powers and functions of the authorities of the University and ensured the active involvement of the Government of Kerala.The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) and section 12B of the UGC Act.It is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
The main objects of the University are: (a) to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal and judicial processes, professional legal education and their role in national development; (b) to develop in the student and research scholar a sense of responsibility to serve the society by developing skills with regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reforms etc., and (c) to promote legal and judicial reforms needed to strengthen the administration of justice in India.
The Chief Justice of India subject to his consent is the Visitor and the Chief Justice of Kerala, the Chancellor of NUALS.
The NUALS Campus is situated in Kochi - the industrial capital of Kerala and the seat of the Kerala High Court - in a 10 acre in the Kinfra Hi-Tech Park at Kalamassery.
The NUALS campus provides adequate academic infrastructure - dedicated internet access, Wi-Fi Connectivity, on-line legal resources including Hein online, Westlaw India and Manupatra, a computer lab, besides a good collection of standard books and reports, both foreign and Indian.

The university is located at NAD Road, HMT Colony, North Kalamassery, Kalamassery, Kochi, Kerala. There are various modes of transport to reach NUALS Kochi. One can travel by air, road or rail to reach the university. The nearest airport to the National University of Advanced Legal Studies is Cochin International Airport. It is located at a distance of 12.8 km and would take approximately 29 minutes from cab or auto. Kalamassery Railway Station is the nearest railway station to the university. It is 6.7 km far from NUALS Kochi and would take around 15 minutes from auto or cab to reach the university. The nearest bus stop is Koonammavu Bus Stop. The distance between the bus stop and the university is 2.6 km. One can travel in 6 minute from the bus stop to the university.

- Candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board with a minimum of 45%.
- For different categories minimum marks criteria is as followed –SC/ST exempted upto 5% from the minimum requirement, candidates belonging to Socially and Educationally Backward Classes are exempted upto 3%.

- Boys Hostel
The hostels provide comfortable accommodation to outstation students with triple occupancy and attached washroom. National University of Advanced Legal Studies boys hotel facilities include separate cots, tables, cupboards, common rooms, mess halls, etc. Recreational facilities like indoor games are also available. - Girls Hostel
The institute also provides hostels for girls. The hostel rooms are well-furnished and well-ventilated and provides comfortable accommodation to the students. There is a common room and mess hall in each hostel and indoor games like carrom, chess, badminton, etc are also available. - Gym

The library is a two-floored building and can accommodate more students at a time. National University of Advanced Legal Studies library facilities include numerous resources like textbooks and reference books on law, national and international journals, periodicals, newspapers, magazines and many more. The library also has an e-corner, where online resources like e-books, HeinOnline, Lexis Nexis, Manupatra, J Stor, Westlaw, SSC online, etc are available. The moot court is well situated in the university academic block. It is a large hall equipped and is fully furnished with a surround-sound speaker system and witness stands. Students have also represented NUALS Kochi in several intra college moots and have won many awards. The university also holds three moot court competitions annually. They are Surana and Surana National Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition - South Rounds in association with Surana and Surana International Attorneys, Chennai, NUALS National Moot Court Competition on Maritime Law and Securities Law Moot. The competitions help the students know more about the complex and emerging issues of national and international law. - Banks Facilities
