National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) is an autonomous body of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Govt. of India. The Centre is a premier organisation for education, training, R&D and consultancy in IT and electronics.
The history of NIELIT dates back to 1974 when the Department of Electronics (DoE) now Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MCIT), Govt. of India and the University Grants Commission (UGC) set up the first CEDT within the premises of Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Bangalore with assistance from Swiss Development Corporation.
The objective was to bridge the gap between the academic institutions and industries. A decade after the successful running of CEDT, Bangalore, the then Department of Electronics (DoE), initiated a programme to set up similar centres in other parts of the country with a wider objective to develop human resources at different levels and in different specialised areas of Electronics Design.
CEDT Calicut was established in 1989 . Later in December 2002, it was renamed as DOEACC Centre Calicut. The Centre adopted its current name NIELIT since 2011.The present infrastructure is developed in 25 acre campus provided by Government of Kerala and houses advanced facilities. The beautiful buildings accomodates several state of the art laboratories in a lush green scenic ambience.

Graduation and a bachelors degree in Science or Engineering discipline obtained through the 10+2+4 system or an equivalent qualification with a minimum aggregate of 55% or equivalent CGPA of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India. A Relaxation of 5% aggregate is there for SC/ST candidates.
Boys Hostel There are three Hostels each for men. The total capacity of all the Hostels, currently available, is about 250. Out of the 3 Hostels for men, 2 are 3 seated, and MH4 (Faculty Hostel) is 2 seated. As far as possible, the students of the same batch are accommodated in the same Hostel.
Girls Hostel There are three Hostels each for women. The total capacity of all the Hostels, currently available, is about 250. 2 are 3 seated, and MH4 (Faculty Hostel) is 2 seated. The Hostels for women have 3 seated rooms, with a total capacity of about 70 students. As far as possible, the students of the same batch are accommodated in the same Hostel.
Library The Library and Information Centre exists in 275 square feet area and has an excellent collection of Books, Journals, and other documents dealing with the latest topics in various fields of Engineering, Computer Science, and Management. The collection is completely computerized and is being converted into a Digital Library, which is in progress. The Library and Information Centre holds the following.
Sports The college has sports facilities for all students.
Cafeteria The college has a canteen facility for staff and students.
Medical/Hospital The college has a health center with a first aid facility for the students.
Wifi The college has a Wi-Fi facility for the students and staff.
IT Infrastructure The college has an excellent IT Infrastructure facility for the students.
Laboratories The college has a departmental based laboratory facility for the students.
Alumni Associations The college has good networking for the alumni association.
Guest Room The college has guest house/waiting room facilities for visiting faculty and student family members.
