landscape at the foothills of the Western Ghats, National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is located about 22 kilometers north-east of Calicut City. National Institute of Technology Calicut is a Technical Institution of national importance set up by an Act of parliament(Act 29 of 2007) namely, the National Institute of technology Act 2007, which received the assent of the President of India on 5th June,2007. The provision of the Act have come into force with effect from 15th August,2007 as per Notification S.O.1384(E) dated 9th August, 2007 of the Ministry of Education(Shiksha Mantralaya),New Delhi. As per the provision of the said Act, this Institution runs on non profitable basis.
NIT Calicut offers B.Tech programmes under 10 streams. The four-year full-time course in B.Tech is divided into 8 semesters during which students learn the fundamentals of engineering, which involves the application of Science and Technology to design, develop and innovate. The five-year full-time course in B.Arch is divided into 10 semesters that helps students learn the basics of designing, planning, and constructing physical structures of various kinds.
Library- NIT Calicut facilities also include a library that has a vast collection of e-books, online journals, print journals, subscriptions to many magazines and newspapers. There is also a digital library that opens the students and faculties of the institute to a world of facilities like Eduserver, DSpace, Eikon, J-Gate, MathSciNet, NPTEL, Turnitin etc. Campus Networking Centre- Campus Networking Centre provides internet and intranet facilities to all users of the institute. The centre has high-end computational servers. The institute has 21 km of Fibre Optic cable backbone with Fifty routed internal networks. It also handles software and hardware related issues of the institute community. Engineering Unit- This Unit handles all duties related to constructions, maintenance, electrification, and water supply of the college. It is also responsible for the construction of new buildings, roads, electricity requirements, etc. Guest House- NIT Calicut has a guest house for the guests of the institute. A/C and Non-A/C rooms both are available there. It also has a fully-fledged conference room.
Health Centre- There is a 24X7 health centre at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut. It is manned by experienced doctors and staff. Laboratory, ambulance service and referral to nearby hospitals is also available. Counselling service is also provided. Hostels- NIT Calicut has 11 hostels for boys and 2 hostels for girls. A few flats are also available for boys. The total capacity of all hostels is about 6000. All hostels have a common room and recreational centre where newspapers, magazines, TVs and indoor sports/games facilities are available. Guest room facilities are available in each hostel for the relatives/guests of the residents. 24-hour internet and computational facilities are also available. Girls hostel has facilities like ladies gym, stitching and tailoring centre, hostel library, fitness parlour, indoor sports centre, DTP centre, Ice-cream shop, co-operative store. Transport- The institute provides a transport facility through its own buses to the nearby towns in the morning and evening. Bus facility is also provided during the afternoon from the east campus towards the girls hostel area.
Boys Hostel The college has boy’s hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.
Girls Hostel The college has a girls' hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.
Gym The college has a Gym facility for the students.
Library The college has a library facility for all students.
Sports The college has sports facilities for all students.
Cafeteria The college has a canteen facility for staff and students.
