National Institute of Speech and Hearing
National Institute of Speech and Hearing, NISH Road, Sreekariyam P. O, Thiruvananthapuram-695017, KeNISH is a comprehensive multi-purpose institute focusing on the identification, intervention, rehabilitation and education of individuals with disabilities. Since its inception in 1997, NISH has made significant contributions to improving the quality of life of individuals with disabilities and has taken a pioneering effort in implementing various programs for the disabled population across the state. NISH hosts a unique inclusive campus that has students and staff with diverse abilities.
The activities of NISH include:
- Implementation of various disability-related projects of Govt. of India and Govt. of Kerala.
- Consultative work on policy formulation and implementation on disability as assigned by Government
- Trans-disciplinary assessment and intervention for various disabilities ( Communication Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Other Developmental Disabilities) by audiologists, speech-language pathologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, special educators, psychologists, ENT doctors and Neurologists.
- Early intervention programs for young hearing-impaired children before school age
- Early intervention programs for young children in the Autism Spectrum
- Academic programs including degree courses for Hearing Impaired students,
- Professional rehabilitation courses like BASLP, MSc (Audio), MSc (Speech Pathology), BOT, DECSE and DISLI.
- Assistive Technology (AT) assessment, implementation and follow-up.
- Counselling and parent guidance.
- Camps and outreach programs such as Public Seminars, Hands-on workshops, CRE programs
- Social relevant research in the field of disability & rehabilitation

A Candidate seeking admission to the degree program should have passed the Plus Two / Pre-degree or its equivalent from any Board or University in India, recognized as equivalent for admission to a degree program at the University of Kerala or equivalent of 10+2 education in India or abroad.

The college has a Gym facility for the students. - Library
The college has a library that is progressing as per the plans for development into an information hub. Currently, the library holds a varied collection of books, national and international journals, online journals, standards, electronic media such as CDs and DVDs, newspapers, periodicals, magazines, etc. The library holds around 3000 national and international books covering fields of interest relevant to the students and staff. Resources are mainly related to audiology, speech, language, voice, communication disorders, autism, education, psychology, disabilities and rehabilitation, fine-arts, computer science, and commerce. There is also a Children's library at NISH which shelves a wide range of magazines, short stories, comics, and other informative books. - Sports
The college has sports facilities for all students. At NISH, students are trained to take part in intramurals, inter-collegiate, state, national, and international competitions in athletics, football, cricket, shuttle badminton, basketball, table tennis, and chess. Participation in sports develops coordination, attention, ethics, and moral values. - Cafeteria
