In 1994, the department was granted autonomous status by the University of Madras and the University Grants Commission (UGC) and metamorphosed into an institute named ‘PSG Institute of Management’. The institute has collaborated with various international universities such as the University of Hull, UK, University of Nottingham etc. PSG Institute of Management Coimbatore is a member of various professional bodies such as the All India Management Association, Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia, AIMS International, Coimbatore Productivity Council, etc. PSG Institute of Management Coimbatore is affiliated to Anna University. All the courses offered at PSG Institute of Management Coimbatore are approved by the All Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The Trading Club has an LED ticker display and the 45 terminal lab is well equipped with a trade cracker and spider to help students understand the concepts of market dynamics. The computer lab offers a 24-hour computing facility. Also, students can use a laptop outside the confines of a lab. The CAL Lab is for all simulation games and learning new things. The Sales Lab is a place where mock interviews, sales competitions etc activities are being conducted.
