PU Puducherry is a central university, located at Kalapet, 10 km away from the town of Puducherry. The university is spread over 800 acres adjoining the scenic Bay of Bengal. Pondicherry University has been ranked 58th by the National Institutional Ranking Framework in the university category 2020. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Pondicherry University has more than 90 colleges affiliated to it, with its jurisdiction spread over the Union Territory of Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and has main campuses at Karaikal and Port Blair. As per the NIRF ranking for two consecutive years 2021 and 2020, the varsity has been ranked 58 in the university category. In the NIRF rankings of 2021, the university has been ranked 87th in the overall category.
The university's main objective is to disseminate advanced knowledge by offering teaching and research facilities and to promote interdisciplinary studies and research. Pondicherry University motto is ‘Vers la lumière’ meaning towards the light. PU Puducherry mission is to be a globally competent resource in terms of people, infrastructure, and partners who will serve as agents in the development of society in various spheres of life. - Boys Hostel
Pondicherry University has separate hostels for boys. Currently, there are 11 hostels for men students and 1 for foreign students. All the students are told to follow the rules and regulations of the hostel. The University Health Centre offers medical facilities to the students. Apart from the general facilities, students are also offered transport facilities for the mobility of students from hostels to departments, library, computer centre etc. - Girls Hostel
To take care of the accommodation needs of the students, Pondicherry University has separate hostels for female students. Currently, there are 5 hostels and 1 for foreign students. Apart from hostel facilities, students are also offered medical and transport facilities to the students residing in hostels. - Gym
Pondicherry University has a 16 station multi-gymnasium including one treadmill, one bicycle ergometer, one bicycle elliptical meter, physiotherapy equipment, microwave diathermy, ultrasound, infrared indications and electrical muscles stimulation equipment is also available. Pondicherry University has 2 auditoriums for hosting all the university events such as conferences, workshops, seminars, meetings, lectures, and cultural events. PU Puducherry can accommodate 600 and 400 students respectively. The university also has various seminar halls, conference rooms, meeting rooms etc. - Medical/Hospital
