On the 15th of October 1840, Presidency College started as a preparatory school in a leased building in Egmore known as Edinburgh Home. The autonomous college is ranked AIR 7th by NIRF 2021 for college ranking. The 2020 NIRF ranking of the college was 5th in the college category.
