Ramanujan College is inspired by Srinivasa Aiyangar Ramanujan, who is one of the world’s greatest-ever mathematical geniuses. Ramanujan College was formerly known as Deshbandhu College (Evening). Ramanujan College was established in 1958 by the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Government of India, in the memory of Late Lala Deshbandhu Gupta, a patriot who had dedicated his life to the national freedom struggle. The college is run totally by the funds of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and has been maintained by the University of Delhi since 1972. In the NIRF rankings of 2021, the college has been ranked 53rd. The college offers a total of 23 courses at the undergraduate level. The college is spread over a campus size of 7 acres. The total faculty strength of Ramanujan college is 95 with 2791 students. The college provides a wide range of facilities and infrastructure to its students. The college also provides a wide range of scholarships and placement opportunities to its students.

The institute is situated in the popular area of Kalkaji, near Nehru Place in South Delhi. Ramanujan College can be reached conveniently, and it is within walking distance from Nehru Enclave Metro Station on Magenta Line. Metro stations like Nehru Place or Govindpuri on Violet Line are also nearby the campus and students can take an auto from those metro stations to reach the campus. Ramanujan College is approximately 15 kilometres from Indira Gandhi International Airport and New Delhi Railway Station. Candidates can easily reach the college by hiring an auto-rickshaw or a taxi. Teaching Learning Centre, Ramanujan College in collaboration with Institute of Advanced Studies in Education, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir organised a one week workshop/ Faculty Development Programme on Academic Writing.
The Ramanujan College has signed an Agreement of Academic Cooperation with MCI Management Center Innsbruck, Austria for a period of five years recognizing the benefits to be gained by both institutions through a cooperation in teaching, academic research and operations, promote exchange of students, staff and knowledge within the interests and abilities of each institution. Exchange of students and academic staff along with joint development and organization of academic programs, courses or seminars and research will be the focus of this collaborative effort.
