SASTRA Deemed University, also known as the Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology, and Research Academy, is a prestigious higher education institution in Tamil Nadu's Thirumalaisamudram village. Shanmugha Arts Science Technology & Research Academy was established in 1984 and was granted deemed university status in the year 2001 under Section 3 of the UGC Act by the Government of India in 1956. It has received GRADE A+ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The SASTRA University is ranked among universities on the number six, the nature of the university is deemed to be one.  SASTRA University is approved by UGC and all courses offered by the university are approved too. SASTRA University ranked 38th in the engineering category, 17th in the law category, 50th in the research category, 22nd in the university category and 42nd in the overall category in the NIRF 2021 Ranking.

National ranking organisations such as Times Higher Education and QS have also given SASTRA high marks. SASTRA University has eight colleges, two centres, and a distance education directorate that delivers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in technology, engineering, medicine, education, the arts, law, and administration. The SASTRA University offers a vast array of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, all of which are supported by research and theoretical structure. Following the classes, students can pursue thesis and dissertation studies at the doctoral level, which will allow them to gain a deeper and vivid understanding of the core concepts. Candidates who want to qualify for a specific programme must complete the SASTRA admissions council's structural process.

Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology, and Research Academy is located in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, at Trichy-Tanjore Road, Thirumalaisamudram. The institution is about 11 kilometres from Alakkudi Railway Station. SASTRA University is about a kilometre away from Sastra Bus Depot. To get there, visitors can rent a car or take an auto-rickshaw. Traveling to Sastra University from Trichy Airport takes 2 hours and 7 minutes. The distance between Sastra University and Trichy Airport is approximately 106 kilometres (65.9 miles) or 57.2 nautical miles.  

  • SASTRA University to establish VR Facility in 75 schools across Tamil Nadu

On the occasion of the National Science Day Awards, Sastra Deemed to be University announced it will establish a virtual reality facility in 75 schools in Tamil Nadu. The VR facility will provide students with an immersive & experiential learning experience. The cost of each VR facility is estimated to be around Rs. 2 lakhs.

SASTRA University held a virtual celebration of National Science Day. SASTRA University and the Chandrasekhar Foundation founded the SASTRA-Prof. Saroj Chandrasekhar Memorial Award in order to honour and reward the female candidates. 

  • SASTRA student has developed the world's lightest Femto satellite, which will be launched by Nasa 

S.Riyasdeen of SASTRA University designed the World's Lightest Femto Satellite For Nasa Launch and won the Cubes in Space Global Modeling Competition for Space Launch in NASA Rocket & Scientific Balloon, bringing laurels to the university.

  • SASTRA and TCS collaborate to provide proctored hybrid end-of-semester exams

SASTRA academic council has collaborated with TCS to administer a remote proctored hybrid end-term exam for students' evaluation for the academic year 2020-2021. 

  • SASTRA Announces the Launch of a Ph.D Programme on "The Evolution of Indian Media Before and After Independence"

In the memory of the renowned and multifaceted journalist Cho S Ramawamy, whose calibre is comparable to intellectual Chanakya, an outstanding satire speaker, and a seasoned journalist, SASTRA recently announced the start of a PhD programme on ‘The History of Indian Media before and after Indian Independence.'

  • On National Science Day, SASTRA honours and rewards women

The SASTRA-Professor Saroj Chandrasekhar Memorial Award was founded in collaboration with the Chandrasekhar Foundation to honour and award female doctoral candidates in the third or fourth year of study. 

  • SASTRA Law School all Girls Team Wins SAARC Law Mooting Competition   

An all women team from the SASTRA School of Law comprising three final year students of the 5-Year Integrated LLB programme - Thejaswini .C.B., Pavitra. M & Kavitha Ravi won the 6th Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon SAARC Law Mooting Competition organised by Lloyd Law College, Noida. This SAARC Moot saw the participation of 18 Law Schools from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE, Maldives and Afghanistan. The moot problem was on an environmental law issue involving the UN Framework Convention on climate change.
