School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore, Karnataka, India- 575002The School of Social Work, managed by the Institute of Social Service Mangalore of Karnataka State, was established in 1960 in Mangalore by the Society of Daughters of the Heart of Mary, an International Catholic Religious Society, founded in France in 1790 during the French Revolution. It is the pioneer Post Graduate Centre for Social Work Education in Karnataka, listed as a ‘Minority’ Institution. It believes in the dictum – “Small is Beautiful”. It is situated on a six acre campus wherein, besides the college, there are service centres such as Kindergarten, Family Service Agency, Family Counselling Centre and CHILDLINE.
Education in this College is inspired by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. From the gospel it draws high ideals of life and service based on the values of respect, freedom and equality. It seeks to contribute to the vision of a humane, just and harmonious society.
The Institute has adopted as its motto, the words of Tagore – “LOVE IS MADE FRUITFUL IN SERVICE”- Serving God by serving humans is the principle that guides its action. The ambiance of the Institute nurtures a homely atmosphere – a healthy teacher-pupil relationship of respect and understanding based on freedom with responsibility.

The College has various national collaborations.
A person, who have passed Higher Secondary/Intermediate (10+2) any other examination recognized as equivalent there, shall be eligible for the course.
Facilities
- Girls Hostel
A ladies hostel with capacity 100 with good infrastructure facility is available on the campus. The hostel mess provides both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food for the hostilities at reasonable rates. The hostel provides opportunities for personality development of students through organizing students get together on relevant occasions. - Gym
The college has a Gym facility for the students. - Library
The College Library was started in the year 1960. It has an excellent collection of books and other reference materials and is used not only by our students and staff but also by other research scholars and visitors. We have 31,965 books, 103 Subscribed Journals. We also have a documentation center with files of Seminar Papers, Audio-visuals, and News Paper Clippings. The number of readers utilizing the library facilities is approximately 125 persons per day. - Sports
Many students have been trained to participate at the International, National, State, District, Taluk, Inter-collegiate and Inter-varsity levels. Coaching is given in Power-lifting, Weight Lifting, Basket-Ball, Volley-Ball, Hand-ball, Soft-Ball, Badminton, Ball-Badminton, Kabaddi, Foot-Ball, Throw-Ball, Chess, Yogasana, Table-Tennis and Athletics and students have brought laurels to the college at these levels. Training is integral to the performance. With this in mind, a well equipped 12 station multi-gym sponsored by Ministry of Youth and Sports Welfare is set up. - Cafeteria

The college has an auditorium facility for events and seminar. - IT Infrastructure
The computer department imparts basic computer knowledge, web designing, accounting package, graphic designing and basic animation. We have 25 computers in the main lab. In addition to this 15 computers are set aside in the Language lab. Regular Computer classes are conducted for outside students as well. 10 computers are exclusively used in the Internet lab. Internet facility is provided for students during working hours.
