This college was established by the then Secretary to the British Government in the year 1906 as recommended by the historic Wood’s Despatch (1854). It got christened as The Secondary Training College, and began functioning as an autonomous institute conferring its own Diploma in Teaching. later after getting our freedom from the British, as The Government of Maharashtra took over it came to be known as The Government a College of Education too. It began with Mr. J.N.Fraser acting as the First ever Principal of the college And then on got laid the foundation of illustrious scholars holding the helm of affairs. Since then till date there have been change of hand 44 times.

Candidates with at least fifty percent marks either in the Bachelor’s degree and/or in the Master’s degree in sciences/social sciences/humanity, Bachelors in Engineering or Technology with specialization in science and mathematics with 55% marks or any other qualification equivalent thereto, are eligible for admission to the program.
Boys Hostel The college has a boy’s hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.
Girls Hostel The college has a girl's hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.
Gym The college has a Gym facility for the students.
Library The Well Equipped Library with Rare Books Section. Books in English, Hindi, Gujarati, Urdu, and Marathi available. A rare combination of Latest and Rare books in one place. Internet and Computers were available in the library too. Digital books being added each year.
