Sree Sankara College, Sankar Nagar, Mattoor, Kalady, Ernakulam–683574, Kerala, IndiaSree Sankara College, Kalady was founded in the year 1954 by Swami Agamananda, a social reformer and a foresighted scholar of Sri Ramakrishna Advaita Ashram. The institution was established with a view to perpetuating the memory and doctrines of the great saint and philosopher, Adi Sankaracharya and to nurture his birth place as a cultural citadel. The foundation stone was laid on 28 August, 1953 by His Highness The Maharaja of Travancore in the presence of The Maharaja of Cochin and several other distinguished personalities. The Sree Sankara College Association was formed in July 1954.
The vision & mission of the organization was to establish a Centre of Higher Learning with two major objectives —dissemination of knowledge in tune with a university curriculum and fostering community development.
The institution was raised to the status of a First Grade College in 1956. It is affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University and is included under sec.2 (f) and 12 (B) of the UGC act, 1956.
In June 1960, the patronage of the college became vested in His Holiness The Jagadguru Sri Sri Sankaracharya Swamigal of Dakshinamnaya. Currently, Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamigal, of Sringeri Mutt, steers the administration through a Board of Directors with Sri. K. Anand as the Managing Director.
The college has done consistently well in Curricular and Cocurricular activities. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council ( NAAC ), a statutory body of the UGC has accredited the college B Grade with 2.82 CGPA on a four point scale. The Departments of Economics, Commerce, Sanskrit and Microbiology are approved Research Centres under the Mahatma Gandhi University.

A person, who has passed Higher Secondary/Intermediate (10+2) any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto, shall be eligible for the course.
Facilities
- Girls Hostel
The college has opened a new 40 bedded hostel block for girls, with preference given to PG students and those coming from distant places. The hostel is managed by a committee selected from the teaching staff with the Principal as the Chief Warden. A full-time Assistant warden and round the clock security service is also provided to ensure the smooth functioning of the hostel. Those desirous of securing admission to the hostel are required to submit the application to the Principal along with the recommendation of their respective HOD’s. - Gym

The College Library subscribes to five English News papers, eight Malayalam dailies, 15 periodicals and 60 journals. These reading materials are available in the general section. - Sports
The college constructed an indoor stadium with a wooden floor of 36×24×12.5 meters dimension with financial assistance from UGC for various gaming activities including handball, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, etc. The indoor stadium is also capable of conducting stage shows, cultural events, etc. The facility is attached to a well-furnished green room and fitness center. - Cafeteria

Thirty-two computers are installed and interconnected through the Local Area Network and having a provision for further expansion in the near future. The laboratory is also connected by a Hi-speed internet facility. The college uses powerful computers for providing support of diverse computing requirements. The lab is equipped with an extensive collection of software including statistical, financial, accounting, programming, and simulations software. Each computer has a separate power back up using the Uninterrupted Power Supply facility. The Computer Lab is also equipped with LCD Projector and Screen, printers, scanners, and other equipment to meet student needs. Students can access the Internet and download relevant study materials and procure hard copies of the study materials with the assistance of staff at any time. - Laboratorie

The College has a co-operative store for the students and teachers is functioning in the Commerce block of the college. Students can have working materials, printed notes, guides, and textbooks from there.
