Sree Sankara Vidyapeetom College, Sreesankarapuram, Valayanchirangara P.O., Perumbavoor, Kerala-6835Sree Sankara Vidyapeetom College, founded five decades ago and named after Sree Sankaracharya, the great visionary, is situated in Irapuram, a remote serene village about 30 kilometers from the sprawling city of cochin. The proximity of Kaladi, the birth place of Adi Sankara, cast a spiritual bearing over the very concept of this situation. Away from towns and traffic-ridden highways, our campus boasts of a perfect learning atmosphere. Set in an environmental bliss, the College has a campus stretching into 18 acres of prime land in these sylvan plain.
The college is managed by The SREE SANKARA TRUST, which was formed in 1965, for promoting higher education in conformity with the ideals propagated by the great saint. The trust is owned and managed by Nambuthiris, the traditional Brahmins of Kerala, known as Keraladwijas in Sanskrit. Authentic history reveals that the Namboothiris, in addition to their Vedic duties, were traditional scholars and teachers. Namboothiri houses in any villages in Kerala were virtual centers of learning where knowledge in fields such as Airbed, Astrology, Architecture, ethics and Mathematics were imparted in gurukula system. Several books on these subjects, authored by Nambuthiris, are still considered and followed as root sources of information in these disciplines. Written on palm leaves, many of these basic works are still preserved at the manuscripts library in Trivandrum. It might have been this tradition which prompted our pioneers to think in terms of floating a trust to promote higher education in the name of Adi Sankara, who himself was a great teacher.
Being social workers at the grass root level, the founders of the trust, headed by Sri. P.N. Namboodiri, a life long worker of Bharat Sevak Samaj, was importunate in selecting underdeveloped and educationally backward rural areas to launch their institutions. The two other colleges of the Trust are also isolated, far-flung rural areas of Kerala. These points to the commitment of our founders to the cause of rural upliftment.

A person, who has passed Higher Secondary/Intermediate (10+2) any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto, shall be eligible for the course.
Facilities
- Girls Hostel
A girl’s hostel with a capacity of 100 is available on the campus. 60 students and 3 teachers are staying in the hostel. There is also a full-time warden staying with the girls who are ready to help them whenever required. - Gym
A state-of-the-art gymnasium with the latest equipment is functioning in the college. It was recently shifted to a new building with enough space for students to practice. A well-outfitted gymnasium is used extensively by both boys and girls. - Library
The library is fully automated with a subscription to INFLIBNET. The College Library is completely automated using OCSCA software We have an arrangement with 3 libraries and with these inter-Library Loan Service is available. The Libraries are V.T.B. College Library, SSV College, Nagaroor Library both of which are under our Management, and Valayanchirangara public Library. We have a rich and plentiful collection of reference books, amounting to well above thousand, in all subjects like Encyclopaedia Britannica, world book, Dictionaries, etc. total seating capacity inside the library is 70. - Sports
The college gives special coaching to interested students in Football, Volleyball, Cricket, Badminton, Ball badminton, Kabaddi, Chess, etc. apart from Athletics. We participate in inter-collegiate tournaments in all these games. The College teams for these sports and games, to represent the College, are selected from the students who perform well in coaching camps conducted before the tournaments. Table tennis board, Chessboard, and Carrom board are provided in the Ladies hostel for their recreation. - Cafeteria
The college canteen is in a separate building inside the campus. It was recently refashioned with new tables and chairs and tile work etc. available with a seating capacity for 40 persons at a time. - Auditorium
The college has an air-conditioned seminar hall with a seating capacity of 150, a room and an auditorium. All these 3 halls have state-of-the-art audio-visual facilities - Medical/Hospital
Health center available on the campus. A room is provided as a health center where first aid medicines are preserved. It has a resting space for students who fall ill while in college. This is the place where the doctor who visits the College examines his patients. we have an arrangement with a hospital in the nearby town for treating our students in case of emergencies. We have started a medical insurance scheme for staff and students. - Wifi
Some areas like Principal’s Chamber, Library, NAAC office, etc are Wifi enabled but password-protected to prevent misuse. - IT Infrastructure
The college has 110 computers at college and all of them are having an internet facility. The whole college is networked and having a high-speed internet connection. 10 MBPS, dedicated leased line from BSNL By being connected to the internet all the time, in the Departments and at home, sending notices and other information by hand is avoided and all such communication is done via email. - Laboratories
The college has a fully furnished language lab that facilitates language training for students of all departments. Science LaboratoriesThe college is maintaining five science laboratories. All these laboratories are well equipped and spacious, meeting the varying requirements. These laboratories include two UG laboratories -Chemistry and Physics, one PGlab Bio-Chemistry, and two PG labs for MSc Chemistry. Computer Labs. At present, the college has three computer laboratories- UG, PG, and one hardware laboratory. - Convenience Store
General store available. A General store is functioning in the college where students can purchase stationery items and books.
