St Dominic’s College was started in 1965 under the Catholic management of St Dominic’s Forane Church, Kanjirappally, to cater to the higher educational needs of the parish in particular, and of the eastern parts of the Archdiocese of Changanacherry in general. This was the fulfillment of a long-felt need of this region which was one of the educationally backward areas in Kerala. When the new Diocese of Kanjirappally was formed in 1977, St Dominic’s College assumed the unique distinction of being the only institution offering higher education in the whole diocese.
The college also includes in its purview, the academic aspirations of all sections of the populace of the area and is committed to imparting education to all who seek higher learning at these doors, irrespective of caste, creed and community. This centre of learning keeps in its interests, the intellectual, cultural and moral advancement of these educationally and economically backward regions including the eastern parts of Kottayam District and the hill tracts of Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts. True to the adage “Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom”, the college tries to instill in the hearts of its students, trust in God and faith in ethical and spiritual values. It aims at upholding the highest Christian ideals along with academic excellence.
The College aims at making its students live its motto-‘Absorb and Radiate’- absorb the light of knowledge and values and transmit what they imbibe, thereby expanding the frontiers of truth and wisdom.
A person, who has passed Higher Secondary/Intermediate (10+2) any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto, shall be eligible for the course.
Boys Hostel The college has a boy’s hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.
Girls Hostel The college has a girl's hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.
Gym The college has Gym facilities functions in the college with good equipment.
Library The college has a fully automated library management system that has become functional in the golden jubilee year. The library has an impressive collection of books, academic journals, popular magazines, newspapers, visual materials, N-List program / INFLIBNET Facility, DELNET service, book bank, etc. To ensure maximum utilization of the various facilities provided by the library the following regulations are to be strictly observed.
Sports The college has Sports play a pivotal role in shaping one’s personality and maintaining good health. All of which are provided to them on the campus.
Cafeteria The college canteen gives meals and other items at reduced rates to the students.
Auditorium The college has an auditorium facility for events and seminars.
Medical/Hospital The college has cell functions for ensuring the holistic health and welfare of the student community. It arranges many programs for the physical and mental health of the students in collaboration with Mary Queen's Hospital, Kanjirapally. An MOU has been signed with the hospital for that purpose. Accordingly, the poor and needy students from the college will be given medical treatment in the hospital at a subsidized rate. Under the supervision of the Physical Education Department and with the financial aid of UGC, a Health Center facilities functions in the college.
Wifi The college has a 4G Wi-Fi enabled network for students.
IT Infrastructure The college has Established with UGC assistance, for practicals of B Com, Voc Students. With the aim of imparting Computer and IT education to students, training programs are conducted for various batches of students. The services of the Jab are available to students, teachers, and the public.
Laboratories The College has a fully functional, state-of-the-art Language Lab. It offers 20 well-equipped access points supported by sophisticated language software. It is accessible to all students and to the participants of language courses.
Guest Room The college has guest house/waiting room facilities for visiting faculty and student family members.
