St. Joseph’s College for Women caters to around 1275 students with the support of about 62 teaching staff including permanent faculty and guest faculty and 22 non-teaching staff. Among the teaching staff, about 40 % have Ph.D. and most of the rest have M. Phil. as their highest degree while several are engaged in the process of obtaining their doctorate. Several members of the staff are engaged in externally funded research projects while several have completed projects.
The college was awarded B++ Grade with a CGPA of 2.87 on a scale of four in the third NAAC accreditation process conducted in 2018. The college has been able to combine the core values of higher education upheld by the Higher Educational Council and NAAC with its own vision and mission which stem from the educational policy evolved by the Canossian Congregation, guided by the precepts of St. Magdalene of Canossa, the founder of the order, thus ensuring value based education that aims at global competencies.
The college has made considerable progress academically and in the updating of its infrastructure facilities, while continuing to make its presence felt in the co-curricular and extra-curricular scenario. The Diamond Jubilee block housing an audirotium, mini theatre, research labs, class rooms and a basement car park is nearing completion. In 2015, the College was the recepient of grant from DST FIST for the infrastructural development of Science labs. In 2016, the College was granted the status of "College With Potential for Excellence" (CPE) by UGC, the only college to be granted it that year among colleges under the University of Kerala.
The college is the center of many important socio-cultural events in Alleppey. The extension activities undertaken by the various organizations in the college including the NSS, the NCC, Women’s Study Unit, AICUF and Jesus Youth, have had the far-reaching impact on the community around. The alumni of the college have excelled in diverse spheres as evidenced by their success in their respective fields.
St. Joseph’s College for Women, Alappuzha is led by competent faculty from different horizons with the spirit to foster new collaborations within biological domains and across the usual disciplinary divide. For community reach the college always take initiative in organizing seminars, workshops, exhibitions, medical camps, conferences in collaboration with various government and voluntary agencies and organizations. Several programmes are organized in collaboration with state and national level bodies such as SUCHITHWA MISSION, NRHM, KERALA STATE WOMENS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, HDFC, KSCSTE, COIR BOARD RESEARCH INSTITUTE, SPICES BOARD OF INDIA, KERALA KHADI AND VILLAGE INDUSTRIES BOARD, ANERT, ENERGY MANAGEMENT CENTRE, ENERGY CONSERVATION SOCIETY, KSEB OFFICERS ASSOCIATION, KERALA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, IIT MUMBAI, DDRC etc with an aim to improve the personality and soft skills of the students in addition to benefitting the community.
A person, who have passed Higher Secondary/Intermediate (10+2) any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto, shall be eligible for the course.
Girls Hostel The college hostel provides accommodation to about 150 students Girl's hostel. Those seeking admission to the college hostel shall submit the application in the prescribed application form available at the hostel office to the warden at the time of admission. Admission to the hostel is made only after admission to the college. Only on the remittance of fees and deposits prescribed, will a student be considered and admitted to the hostel.
Gym The college has a Gym facility for all the students.
Library The college has a library that acts as a strong pillar supporting and catering to the wide and challenging requirements of the students and teaching community. A library is computerized using full-featured open-source ILS KOHA and is well equipped with around 46000 books and 75 periodicals spread over almost all the disciplines. The library catalog can be accessed online through WEB OPAC. Library also has a network center for internet search and digital library access equipped with computers with an internet facility of bandwidth 10mbps provided as part of NMEICT. Library also maintains a special collection of ‘works by Canossian Sisters of Charity’, ‘Walk With a Scholar’, and ‘Scholar Support Program’. The library participates in a resource sharing network by subscribing to the N-LIST database provided by UGC- INFLIBNET since 2010. “Annual Best User” award is given to the best outgoing student every year who makes maximum use of the library resources.
Sports The College has a sports facility well-equipped Basketball and Table Tennis Court.
Cafeteria The college has a canteen is meant only for the bonafide students of this college. Our college canteen is blessed with the family atmosphere, with a variety of delicacies, touched by a homemade flavor, cooked to perfection, and served with great courtesy.
Auditorium The college has the auditorium with a capacity to seat 1000 people at a time, has reached its Diamond Jubilee Year. With all the modern amenities and with fine acoustics, it is a hub of all the academic and extracurricular programs.
Medical/Hospital The college has a health center with a first aid facility for the students.

IT Infrastructure The college has two well-equipped computer labs for academic activities as well as conducting courses and training programs. It is a Cyber center also. Teachers and students of this college can avail themselves of the internet and e-mail facilities here. Computer literacy programs for staff and students and various IT courses are offered. It glares in such a manner that it can meet the new developments in the information world.
