The college stands tall bringing forth thousands of luminaries such as the former President of India Sri. K.R Narayanan, numerous Cabinet Secretaries, Ambassadors, Civil Servants, IT doyens, Teachers, Poets, Writers, Artists, Politicians and the like. Offering 18 UG, 21 PG, 13 M.Phil. and 17 Ph.D. programmes, the college is undoubtedly vibrant academically. Its student-strength of more than three thousand comprises pupils from all social classes. Since the selection procedure to all the courses is based on merit alone, the percentage of financially challenged but meritorious students is the highest in this college. The college has been accorded “College with Potential for Excellence” (CPE) status by the University Grants Commission. University College is identified as a heritage institution by the Government of Kerala.

- Department of Communication and Journalism in collaboration with Doordarshan, AIR and VICTERS Channel ( under IT Mission of the State Government) resulted in production of programmemes targeting school and college students in the State.These productions are available in You-Tube for global consumption
- The faculty members of Department of Library and Information Sciences collaborate with other Departments of Library and Information Science in the state and at the national level in the design of curriculum and syllabi. They also collaborate with public, academic and special libraries in the state in the organization of various programmemes like seminars, conferences and workshops. As a result, the Department is held in high esteem by the library community in the state.
- The first visible and formal collaboration of Department of Political Science was initiated in 2004 when a Fulbright Partnership Programmeme with Claremont Graduate University, USA was signed. The students and teachers of the Department stood to benefit with this programme, which lasted until 2008. Since then the Department has had a series of academic collaborations with Universities in USA, Australia, Canada, Poland, Thailand and Romania. The Department of Political Science is visited by several international students and teachers. The academic exchanges had helped the students immensely. The students of the Department are exposed to the rigour and quality of international education. The cultural value of these exchanges too has a great influence on students.
- Collaborative research with Regional Institute of Ophthalmology on the prevalence of cataract vulnerable sections of society was carried out. This work was carried out with financial support in the form of SARD, KSCSTE.
Scientific evaluation of a traditional rice variety, Njavara (Oryza sativa) was carried out in collaboration with NIIST. Thiruvananthapuram for its anti-inflamatory properties. This work would scientifically validate the widespread practice of its application in Ayurveda. - Application of marine biomolecules and biocomposites in tissue engineering of pharmacological importance.
Collaboration with School of Chemical Sciences, MG University, Kerala. Development of Novel nanoparticles for anticancer applications. - Collaboration with NIIST and SCTIMST, Trivandrum.
- The University of Kerala is an IMC Member of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, New Delhi.
One faculty from the Department got selected for collaborative visit to Nottingham Trent University, UK as part of FLAIR programmeme, Government of Kerala. - Visit of research scholar from the department for completion of part of the Ph.D. work University of Connecticut, USA (Dr. Niranjana Maulik, 2007-10). This collaboration has resulted in substantial linkage between the two institutions.

- Hostel Facilities: The room was very neat and tidy with a separate bathroom. There is a study table, shelf, dress shelf in my room. The food was very tasty and neat. Our warden provides good and healthy food. Both veg and nonveg were on our food menu. I had no more words to say about our food. I'm staying as a pg. near secretariat Thiruvananthapuram.
- Campus Life: Life at the campus was very interesting and beautiful. There are many programs and campaigns that were done in the college. Arts fest, fresher's day, college day, Onam celebration, holy, Christmas, Deepawali, etc. were celebrated in the college. The classrooms were very attractive and it provides all amenities for the students. And also we had a good college library and department library with thousands of books. NCC, NSS, Arts club, nature club, etc. were in the college.
