Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, Mumbai was established in 1887 named as Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute. After 1903, the institute expanded to accommodate more departments. In 1913, the institute received recognition by the Government of Bombay as the Central Technological Institute. It got renamed to the present name in the year 1998 and it offers courses in different level of study. The campus size of VJTI Mumbai is 17-acre campus. The faculty and student enrollment of VJTI Mumbai is 126 and 4643 respectively. It receives grants-in-aid from the Government for its overall functioning. 

VJTI Mumbai stands at 82nd on the NIRF ranking in 2021 among engineering institutions, the institute was ranked 71st in NIRF ranking 2020. VJTI Mumbai offers Diploma, UG and PG and doctoral programmes in a number of specializations. The entrance criteria for B.Tech programmes is JEE Main or MHT CET. For M.Tech., the candidates need to appear in GATE/GPAT. 

As far as the infrastructure is concerned, VJTI Mumbai has state-of-the-art facilities. The college is located at H R Mahajani Road, Matunga, Mumbai, Maharashtra. Being situated in a metro city, it is well connected to other parts of the state and country. The nearest airport is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport that is a mere 10 km distance from the campus. Matunga Railway Station is the nearest railway station that is 1.2 km away. Through roadways, people can take buses to reach different destinations. The nearest bus station is Wadala Bus Station that is also 1.2 km away.

  • Virtual One Week Faculty Development Programme on “ELECTRIC VEHICLES” 

The Mechanical Engineering Department of VJTI Mumbai organised this FDP where the Course Coordinator was Dr. Vijay M. Barethiye. A maximum limit of 200 participants was set on a first come first serve basis. Delivered by eminent speakers in online mode, the course followed an objective/quiz-based test of all participants. 

  • VJTI Mumbai triumphs at Baja in South Africa

A seven-member team led by Gaurang Dharap of VJTI Mumbai won Baja 2015 at Pretoria, South Africa. Baja is an engineering competition where students across the world manufacture and design a single seat all-terrain vehicle (ATV). This proved to be the first international victory for the institute.

  • Boys Hostel
    The college well furnished boys hostels for accommodation of students. All the basic facilities are provided to students at hostel. The hostel rooms are spacious and offer a comfortable stay to students.

    VJTI Mumbai has separate hostels for girls. For the safety of students, round-the-clock security is provided at girls hostels. The ventilated and well-furnished rooms of hostels offer a comfortable stay to students.

    A modern gym equipped with the latest equipment is present within college premises for students.

    VJTI library offers a range of specialist resources to aid studies and enhance learning experience with a collection of 848 books, 648 ebooks, 66 national journals, 1168 International e-journals and 60 doctor level thesis. It provides access to various e-resources like Springer.

    The institute has facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports such as football, volleyball, football, tennis, badminton and cricket. There is also a fully equipped gymnasium with all of the latest equipment provided.
  • Cafeteria
    The college canteen is situated near the quadrangle and is open on all the five working days. It offers a variety of food-items including tea, coffee, sandwiches and lunch items to students at subsidized prices.
  • Auditorium
    VJTI Mumbai has a modern auditorium. The auditorium is equipped with the latest technology. It hosts academic and non-academic events of the college.

    The college has modern and robust IT infrastructure so that students gets the best learning environment. 
  • Convenience Store
    Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute runs a cooperative store located at the ground floor of the main building. Students can buy folders, stationary, instrument-boxes, floppies, calculators, tool-sets, drafting equipment and other tools and supplies. The store is open on all days of the week from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm.
